AV Niche release their latest incarnation of their Audio and Video transcriber
software specially written for the professional transcription of audio and video
recordings. In conjunction with their partner XoVox Communications, AV Niche now has 2 products in their transcription portfolio, AudioTranscriber & VideoTranscriber.

These applications are written for the specific task of transcribing information on a PC from CD or DVD interview recordings. All that is required is a standard PC with a CDROM/DVD drive running the Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Operating System and a standard footswitch and headphone set.

Once the CD or DVD is loaded into the drive on the workstation, the AV Niche application will automatically start and allows the user to listen to or view the recording as required. The playback is controlled using a standard transcription foot pedal, familiar to the world of dictation / transcription and alleviates the current requirement to use the windows media player with a mouse, which by comparison is cumbersome and time consuming.

When either an audio recording (on CD) or a video recording (on DVD) is placed in the drive, the application will display the appropriate control window for the recording. Various methods are available for controlling the playback depending on user preference and hardware availability.

Depending on the type of document being produced the AudioTranscriber or
VideoTranscriber can be configured to provide useful information by using “hotkeys” from applications such as Microsoft Word. For example, the current time from the recording can be inserted into the document with a single keystroke when a person in the recording starts to speak, which greatly improves productivity when transcribing recorded interviews.

Future versions will allow networked implementations with the audio/video streamed to the workstation from a central server location. AV Niche and its partner XoVox Communications already have similar file capture, indexing and workflow applications which allow corporate or force–wide implementations using other audio formats in a networked environment.

The Audio/Video transcriber is the perfect complement to the new AV Niche digital recording products for CD/DVD recorded interviews. The Audio/Video transcriber module is extremely cost effective and is easily implemented by utilising existing PC hardware.
